Frequently asked questions
What is Early Habits?
Early Habits is created by Dietitian Dr. Jeanette Rapson (PhD) to help families build healthy habits from the very beginning. We offer freeze-dried baby food, feeding plans, and support for new parents.
What is freeze-drying?
Freeze-drying gently removes water from real veggies without heat. It keeps the goodness, taste, and colour, so your baby gets more nutrients — without any added stuff.
Why start with single veggies?
Starting with single veggies helps babies learn to like savoury tastes and makes it easier to spot any reactions. It’s backed by research and baby feeding guidelines.
Is your baby food safe?
Yes. Our food is made in a certified facility in New Zealand and tested to meet strict safety standards. It’s made with care for little tummies.
How do I use the purée powders?
Tip the sachet into a bowl, add 75ml (or 5 Tablespoons) of boiled, cooled water, stir, and serve. You can change the water amount to make it thicker or smoother. You can also add breastmilk to add extra nutrition!
Can I use purées if we’re doing baby-led weaning?
Yes! Use them on a spoon to feed themselves, as a dip, in pancakes, or in a silicone feeder. They’re great for self-feeding and messy play.
How long do they last once opened?
Each sachet is one serve, but if your baby’s just starting out, you can use half the powder and mix it with half the water. Seal the rest of the dry powder and keep it in the fridge. Use within 24 hours. Once mixed, it should be eaten straight away.
Are your products allergy-friendly?
Yes. Our food is dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, and vegan. Safe for most babies and gentle on new tummies.
How should I store them?
Keep sachets in a cool, dry place. No fridge needed. Once opened, store leftover dry powder in the fridge and use the next day. Do not store wet powder.
Is your packaging recyclable?
Not yet — but we’re working on it.
Right now, our sachets can’t be recycled in NZ or Australia due to the special layers that keep the food fresh and safe. But we’re working closely with packaging experts on a new version that will be soft plastic recyclable in the near future.
We care deeply about sustainability and are doing our best to make changes that are safe, smart, and planet-friendly.
Where is it made?
All our purée powders are made in a certified freeze-drying facility right here in New Zealand. We use only New Zealand-grown vegetables — nothing imported, nothing artificial. Just real, local goodness you can trust.
